THE BRANDING AND DECAPITATION AT ANCIENT TRIBES OF AZERBAIJAN
The new article of leading researcher PhD. Ass. Prof. Dmitriy Aleksandrovich Kirichenko was published in the journal «Vestnik Muzeya archeologii i Etnografii Permskogo Priuralya».
D.A. Kirichenko have studied anthropological material from Arvana kurgan №1. This kurgan placed near Arvana village in Yardimli district of Azerbaijan. Arvana kurgan have excavated the archaeological expedition of Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences at the head PhD., Ass.,Prof. A.M. Aghalarzadeh in August 2019 year.
In kurgan have found eight ceramic vessels, bronze ring, bronze dagger and bronze sword-rapier.
The Arvana kurgan belonged to kurgans with stone box form burials. In kurgan have found artifacts correlated with Khojaly-Gedebey and Talysh-Mughan archaeological cultures.
Anthropologist D.A. Kirichenko have studied male skull from kurgan №1. The skull is hyperdolichocranic, Caucasoid. On the frontal bone have traits of injuries, may be this was as result of branding sizzling hot thing. The skull from kurgan №1 have traits of decapitation too. We can see mechanical damages on the base of skull and on the mastoids. The skull from Arvana kurgan in present time the singular skull with decapitation in Azerbaijan, which dates The Late Bronze- Early Iron Age.
