Memorandum of agreement joint research and educational cooperation in the field of archaeology and archaeometry between the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the (Teikyo University National Research Institute for Cultural Properties) (Tokyo) signed on October 2,in year 2024.

The document was signed by the director of the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology, doctor of philosophy in history, associate professor Farhad Guliyev and the director of the Cultural Heritage Research Institute of Teikyo University, professor Kazuya Yamauchi. During the discussion of ideas, based on the points of the memorandum, in the future, the organization of joint archaeological researches, in interdisciplinary fields related to archaeology, including paleozoology, paleobotany, etc. the parties have shown a unanimous position on conducting investigations on the directions. The subject of attracting young Azerbaijan researchers to special education courses in Japan for the training of specialists in the specified fields was also touched upon.

Also, Japanese archaeologist Professor Randy Sasaki, who participated in the meeting, said that Teikyo University’s Cultural Heritage Research Institute is ready to help in the development of underwater archeology in Azerbaijan.
