Leading researcher of Archaeology and Ethnography Institute, Russian Sciences Academy (RSA SB) (Novosibirsk) Siberian Branch , doctor of historical sciences, professor Anoikin Anton Alexandrovich, Russian Academy Sciences Geography Institute researcher (Moscow),geological sciences candidate Kurbanov Rejep Nurmuradovich , Idrisov Idris Abdulbutayevich, a leading researcher at the REA Dagestan Science Center, Institute of Geology (Makhachgala), Yaroslav Dmitriyevich Ivanov, a junior researcher at the REA Institute of Material Culture History (St. Petersburg) and Vasilyeva Angela Nikolayevna, an employee of the RSA Institute of Geography, at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS were guests. The guests got acquainted with the findings of the Paleolithic period stored in the Scientific Foundation of the Institute.
Later, Professor A.A. Anoykin and R.N. Kurbanov were received by the Director of the Institute, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Farhad Guliyev. Welcoming the guests, Farhad Guliyev informed about the expansion of international relations of the Institute in recent years, international expeditions conducted in the country and emphasized the efficiency of joint research. He said that, in the summer excavation season of 2024, several joint international expeditions,including Germany and Korea, operated in Azerbaijan and conducted joint research with Azerbaijani archaeologists.
Participating in the meeting was one of the Institute’s leading specialists in Stone Age archeology, Ph.D. Azad Zeynalov reported on the work done by the Azerbaijan-Russia joint geoarchaeological expedition in two weeks. He noted that researches were conducted in the territory of Nakhchivan AR and Gazakh districts, and as a preliminary result, Alinjachay open-type paleolithic camp was registered for the first time in the Julfa district of Nakhchivan AR. It should be noted that until today, the only Paleolithic camp in the area was considered to be the Gazma cave, discovered in 1983 by the well-known archaeologist Mammadali Huseynov. At the same time, he emphasized that another important result of the joint expedition was the registration of a new open-type “Yatag Yeri-3” paleolithic camp in the Gazakh region.
During the meeting, it was decided to prepare and sign a memorandum on cooperation between RSA SB Archaeology and Ethnography and ANAS Institutes of Archaeology and Anthropology with the aim of expanding mutual cooperation and joint research of Paleolithic monuments in the territory of Azerbaijan.
