On March 3, 2025, Farhad Guliyev, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Associate Professor, and Ph.D. in History, received a delegation from the Kudaibergen Jubanov Aktobe Regional University of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Kazakh delegation was led by the university’s rector, Dr. Laura Karabasova, and included Dastan Husainov, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development, and Mayra Aldiyarova, Head of the International Relations Department.

Welcoming the guests, Farhad Guliyev noted that the institute he leads has a long-standing history of cooperation with archaeological research institutions in Turkic republics, including Kazakhstan. Personal connections have already been established with many renowned Kazakh archaeologists, and constructive collaboration exists in archaeological research and scientific events. Guliyev emphasized, “The establishment of cooperation between scientific centers of Turkic states, particularly in the field of archaeology—researching the intersecting points of our shared history—is a call of the modern world.”

Dr. Laura Karabasova, rector of Aktobe Regional University, expressed her delight at visiting Baku. She spoke about the attention given by Kazakhstan’s leadership to the training of young researchers and the development of science in general. Aktobe Regional University has been included in the QS World University Rankings for developing countries in Europe and Central Asia since 2020. Dr. Karabasova also highlighted that cooperation between scientific and educational institutions of Turkic countries opens great prospects for the development of science among fraternal nations.

Following the discussions, a cooperation agreement was signed between the parties. The agreement outlines joint research projects in archaeology, the exchange of scientific expertise, and the training of young scientists between Aktobe Regional University and the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS.

The meeting with the Kazakh delegation was also attended by Zaur Hasanov, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs and Doctor of Historical Sciences; Ellada Bakirova, Scientific Secretary, Associate Professor, and Ph.D.; and Parviz Gasimov, Leading Researcher and Ph.D.
