With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom, a presentation of the book "Azykh Cave – The Oldest settlement in the territory of Azerbaijan" was held within the framework of the International Book Fair in London.
According to AZƏRTAC, the book was co-authored by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Asadulla Jafarov, and was recently published in English with the support of the ministry. The event was attended by diplomats, scholars, media representatives, and guests interested in history.
During the presentation, Professor Asadulla Jafarov emphasized that Azykh Cave is of great importance not only for Azerbaijan but also for global scientific research. He stated that the cave was discovered in the 1960s as a result of archaeological research in the Karabakh region, led by the prominent archaeologist Mammadali Huseynov, head of the Paleolithic Archaeological Expedition of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The professor highlighted that the Guruchay Valley, where Azykh Cave is located, provided a favorable natural-geographical environment for ancient human settlement. He emphasized that significant discoveries, such as stone tools, animal remains, and a human jawbone found in the cave, serve as invaluable sources for studying the lifestyle and development of early humans.
In his speech, he mentioned that the study of Azykh Cave has been divided into three main phases, and the scientific results obtained have been highly appreciated by the international scientific community. He noted that international research has proven that humans inhabited this area 2–2.5 million years ago.
During the presentation, it was stated that this publication is not only an important source for studying Azerbaijani history but also a crucial reference for global paleoanthropology and archaeology. The importance of presenting the book at the UNESCO level and continuing extensive international cooperation on this topic was also emphasized.
At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the book and ask questions to the author. A book-signing ceremony was also held, where guests, particularly from countries such as Bangladesh, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and China, showed great interest in the publication and obtained signed copies from Professor Asadulla Jafarov.
