Farhad Eldar oglu Guliyev was born on October 14, 1973 in the city of Baku and finished school in the same city. In 1990, he entered the evening department of the History Faculty of Baku State University. At the same time, he was accepted as a laboratory assistant at the ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography (the Archeology and Ethnography sector of the EA History Institute). During the years 1990-1996, he continued his studies at the university and participated in the researchers conducted by the institute in different regions of the country. After graduated university in 1996, he started to engage in scientific activity.

In 2003, he defended his candidate’s thesis on “Equestrianism in Ancient Azerbaijan” at the Dissertation Council of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography 5505.02 – Archeology, and in 2004 was awarded a candidate of historical sciences diploma by the Higher Attestation Commission. However in 2006-2013, he was the chairman of the Institute’s “Young Scientists Council”.

On October 16, 2017, he was awarded the “Scientist of the Year 2016” award within the “Most Worthy Scientist – MWS” grant competition of the Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan Republic. In 2023, he received the scientific title of docent by the Higher Attestation Commission.

Farhad Eldar oglu Guliyev is the author of the researches of Göytepe archaeological complex, which has an important place in Azerbaijan due to its scientific importance. Specialists from Tokyo University of Japan, Republic of Turkey and National Scientific Research Center of France worked as part of the expedition working under his leadership in Tovuz region. In 2011, Farhad Eldar oglu Guliyev was the winner of the 1st competition of 2011 (EIF-2011-1(3)) for the awarding of grants by the Foundation for the Development of Science under the President of Azerbaijan Republic with the project called “Archaeological Complexes Reflecting Early Civilizations (Göytepe Neolithic monument-open-air archeological park)”. In 2011, he also implemented the summer school project of young archaeologists from the CIS countries on the theme “Ancient cultures of the South Caucasus” in the Göytepe Neolithic settlement. This grant project was financed by the “Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund of the CIS Countries”. In addition, the international archaeological expedition of Tovuz, led by Farhad Guliyev, was awarded the “National Heritage” award of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2013.

In 2008, by the decision of the Scientific Council of ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, his scientific monograph on “Horse burial in kurgan graves of Azerbaijan” (in three languages) was published by Elm publishing house. In 2012, he was published the book “Goytepe Neolithic monument, the starting point of civilization”.

Farhad Eldar oglu Guliyev actively participated in a number of important scientific conferences in order to introduce the results of his researches to the world scientific community during the last six years. He gave reports at international conferences and seminars in 2010 year in Japan and England, in 2011-2015 years in France, in 2011 year in the Republics of Georgia and Russia, in 2012-2016 years in Turkey, and in 2012 years in Poland. Farhad Guliyev has been working at the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology for more than 30 years. During these years, he was able to show himself as a specialist who can sign innovations in the development of archeology in Azerbaijan country.

Archaeologist Farhad Guliyev, who has been working for more than 30 years, conducts research on the archaeological cultures of the oldest period of Azerbaijan, the Middle Eastern and Anatolian civilizations, and the problem.

During the past fifteen years, Farhad Guliyev has led an international expedition in the Ganja-Kazakh region combining experts from Japan’s Tokyo University and France’s National Center for Scientific Research, working together with Azerbaijani archaeologists.

The results of the joint scientific researches of Farhad Guliyev and archaeologist specialists of Japanese Universities were accepted by the world scientific community as unambiguous and appreciated as the innovation of the archeology of the South Caucasus. Over the past three years, the monographs published by the scientific fundamental publishing houses “Archaeopress” in Oxford, England and “ex oriente” in Berlin, Germany had a significant impact on the discovery of fundamental scientific information about the ancient archaeological cultures of Azerbaijan eight thousand years ago and the recognition of the archaeological monuments of our country.

According to his results, the researcher is the most refered scientist in humanities and social sciences in our country (H-index 29). The articles published in high-index scientific journals reflect issues related to the ancient times of our nation as a whole.

A scientist who prefers interdisciplinary research in the organization of scientific research in the field of archeology in our country has managed to apply modern scientific research methods.

Farhad Guliyev is one of the first archeological scientists who started fundamental researches in the liberated territories. During the last two years, as a result of the work done in the direction of expanding the archaeological research works in the Karabakh region, he defined the tasks of archaeological and anthropological research in order to obtain new scientific results.
