The first international periodical scientific journal of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology has been published
The first issue of the international peer-reviewed journal “Tempus Pontem:
Azerbaijan Journal of Archaeology and Anthropology” of the Institute of
Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS has been published.
The scientific research areas of the only English-language periodical
scientific journal in the field of social sciences in the Republic of Azerbaijan
include all existing directions of archaeology (Aerial archaeology,
Archaeogeography, Archaeometry, Bioarchaeology, Biological, Cultural
Anthropology, Archaeobotany and Archaeozoology, Battlefield archaeology,
Digital and Computational Archaeology, Experimental Archaeology,
Environmental Archaeology, Epigraphy, Forensic archaeology, Geoarchaeology,
Landscape Archaeology, Settlement Archaeology, Numismatics, Maritime
archaeology, Museum studies, Recceology – non-contact research, etc.), including
Paleopathology, as well as the fields of Biological and Cultural Anthropology, in
particular, the philosophy of Archaeology and Anthropology.
The scientific journal is provided with journal metadata, publication details,
identifiers (Journal identifiers: ISSN, DOI, etc.) and modern journal specifications
in accordance with modern world standards. The articles are compiled according to
the APA style adopted for social and behavioral sciences, i.e., the
recommendations and rules of the American Psychological Association.
The official website of the English-language journal, ajaa.az, is accessible to
international readers. The electronic resource of the journal, which has a special
ISSN identifier, is designed in accordance with the website parameters of modern
world scientific journals. The articles are open access on the official website of
ajaa.az, which is on the OJS (Open Journal Systems) open-source platform,
designed for the management, editing, publication and online presentation of
scientific journals created by the international research initiative PKP (Public
Knowledge Project). Articles in PDF format are integrated into CrossRef, Google
Scholar, ORCID, etc. search, data systems and indexing databases within the
capabilities of the OJS platform.
The editorial board of the journal includes well-known archaeologists and
anthropologists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Japan, Italy, the USA and
Germany. The Editor-in-Chief of the journal is Farhad Guliyev, Director of the
Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, Corresponding Member of
the German Institute of Archaeology, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate
Professor.
The scientific journal, represented in international identification databases
for ISSN and DOI, will be published twice a year at the initial stage. The strategic
goal of the scientific editorial board of the journal is to position the journal in well-
known indexing databases.
The articles published in the first issue of the journal cover archaeological
research conducted in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, mainly in the
territories liberated from occupation, in recent times. In addition to Azerbaijani
scientists, archaeologists from Japan, Italy and Germany were also among the co-
authors of articles.
