Azərbaycanlı alim Türkiyədə qədim keramika texnologiyaları üzrə təcrübə proqramında iştirak etdi
From May 18 to June 16, 2025, Lola Huseynova, a staff member of the Department of Archaeological Research of New Construction Areas at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, participated in an internship within the framework of the project “Practical Training in the Analysis of Ceramic Artifacts in the Field of Archaeology” at the Laboratory for the Research and Conservation of Historical Materials (MAKLAB), Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Properties, Faculty of Fine Arts, Hacı Bayram Veli University, Ankara, Republic of Türkiye. The internship program was supervised by Professor Ali Akın Akyol, head of the aforementioned laboratory. The project was carried out within the framework of the 14th “Mobility Grant” competition (AEF-MOB-14-2025-4(57)) announced by the Azerbaijan Science Foundation in 2025.
During her scientific internship in Turkish laboratories, L. Huseynova became acquainted with advanced material characterization methods applied to archaeological ceramics, including petrographic analysis, XRF (X-ray fluorescence), and SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy). Within the framework of the program, the Azerbaijani researcher acquired both theoretical and practical knowledge concerning the analysis of raw material provenance and production technologies of ancient ceramic objects, which are of great scientific importance for archaeology and conservation.
Over the course of one month, the researcher became familiar with the working principles and modern equipment of the following laboratories: “Laboratory for the Restoration and Conservation of Historical Materials” (MAKLAB) at Hacı Bayram Veli University, “SEM-EDX Analysis Laboratory” at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, the “Applied and Research Center for Earth Sciences” (YEBİM) at Ankara University, and the “Wood Analysis Laboratory” of the Department of Woodworking Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Technology, Gazi University. In addition, L. Huseynova was received by Professor Dr. Mehtap Pazarlıoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Hacı Bayram Veli University, as well as by Professor Dr. Yılmaz Erdal, Head of the Department of Physical Anthropology and its laboratory at the Faculty of Literature, Hacettepe University.
