Meeting with the Director of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies

The director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Associate Professor Farhad Guliyev, PhD in History, received Evren Rutbil, the director of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS).
Farhad Guliyev welcomed the guest and stated that the institute he leads has a history of cooperation with scientific centers in Central Asia and the broader Turkic world, including IICAS. The institute’s staff has participated in scientific conferences, symposiums, and joint archaeological research projects in Turkic
republics.
In September of this year, the First Meeting of the Union of Turkic World Research Institutes and Archaeology Centers (ARICA) was held in the city of Shusha, co-organized by the Turkic Academy, the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, and the Organization of Turkic States. Based on an initiative previously proposed jointly with IICAS’s former director, who is now the president of the Turkic Academy, Professor Dr. Şahin Mustafayev, the institute plans to conduct joint research in the coming years. Additionally, cooperation
memorandums have been signed with several archaeological research centers in Turkic republics.
In this context, Farhad Guliyev suggested that in the coming years, collaboration with IICAS could focus on the field of Turkic-Islamic archaeology.
IICAS Director Evren Rutbil emphasized that the scientific research conducted by the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology is well known in the academic circles of independent and autonomous Turkic republics. He noted that IICAS funds grant projects in collaboration with scientific institutions in Turkic republics and informed the participants that both institutions and individual researchers can submit grant project proposals to IICAS. Additionally, he highlighted that IICAS has the capability to support the specialization of young scientists in archaeological technology.
During the meeting, both parties reached a mutual agreement on strengthening cooperation between the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology and IICAS in the near future, as well as on the implementation of joint projects.
The event was also attended by Ellada Bekirova, PhD in History, Associate Professor, and Scientific Secretary of the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, Shahin Salimbeyov, Head of the International Relations Department of the Institute, Ferda Asadov, PhD in History, and Head of a Department at the ANAS Institute of Oriental Studies.
