English publishing house “Oxbow books” in English “Damjili Cave. The book named (Damjili Cave: Investigating the Late Pleistocene to Holocene Human History in the Southern Caucasus) was published “Research of the History of Humanity from the Last Pleistocene to the Holocene Period in the South Caucasus”.

The work is dedicated to the results of the research conducted by the Azerbaijan-Japan international archaeological expedition since 2016 in the Damcili cave (Kazakh region, administrative territory of Dash Salahli village) within the monument complex of the Avey State Historical-Cultural Reserve.

Director of Tokyo University Museum, doctor of London Archaeological Institute, professor Yoshihiro Nishiaki, leading researcher of ANAS Institute of Archeology and Anthropology, head of Ganja-Kazakh Paleolithic archaeological expedition, Ph.D. Azad Zeynalov and leading researcher of the Institute, Ph.D. Yaqub Mammadov are the scientific editors of the book and co-authors of the introduction to the work.

In the work, archeological evidences were presented that give an idea of the transition from the Middle Stone (Mesolithic) period to the New Stone (Neolithic) period in the South Caucasus, as well as to the agricultural society. In the studies reflected here, the materials from the Mesolithic layer in Damcili cave and the materials from the early Neolithic Haji Alamkhanli (Haji Elamkhanli Tepe) and mature Neolithic Goytepe settlements of the South Caucasus discovered in Tovuz region and the results of their analyzes are compared.

Also, among the co-authors of the chapter dedicated to the activities of the Azerbaijan-Japan international archaeological expedition in years 2016-2022, together with Japanese experts, the employees of the ANAS Institute of Archeology and Anthropology Mansur Mansurov, Ulviyya Safarova, Shahin Salimbayov and Orkhan Zamanov took place.

In the special section of the work, the reports translated into English of the research conducted by late archaeologists Mammadali M.Huseynov and Sergei N. Zamyantin in the area of Damjili cave in the 50s of the 20th century are brought to the readers’ attention.

For the support shown by the experts who created the book, the director of the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology of ANAS expressed their gratitude to Dr. Farhad Guliyev, associate professor, and Dr. Saadat Aliyeva, director of the Avey State Historical and Cultural Reserve.

The book is intended for libraries of American and European research centers, experts and students of archeometric research fields, which are subscribers of the publishing house “Oxbow books” specializing in the publication of scientific literature on archaeological research and their results around the world.

It should be noted that this published book is the third fundamental research work published as a result of the joint Azerbaijan-Japan archaeological expedition, which has made great contributions to Azerbaijan and world archeology in the last 20 years under the leadership and organization of Farhad Guliyev.
