On August 4–10, 2025, an international seminar-training entitled “The Culinary Heritage of the Silk Road: Introduction to Zooarchaeology and Archaeobotany” was held in the Kyrgyz Republic. The event was jointly organized by the Institute of History and Cultural Heritage of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan and the Cultural Heritage Research Institute under Teikyo University in Japan.

Employees of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS — Ulviyya Safarova, Narmin Mammadli and Ulkar Allahverdiyeva — participated in the seminar. The training program included theoretical and practical exercises in the fields of archaeobotany and zooarchaeology. In archaeobotany, participants applied the techniques of washing samples using the flotation method and selecting and distinguishing seeds under a microscope. In the zooarchaeology section, they gained practical skills in topics such as bone identification, analysis of morphological features, measurement, determination of age and sex, pathology and recognition of cut marks.

As part of the program, the participants visited the excavation site of the medieval city of Ak-Beshim, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and got acquainted with the research conducted there. In addition, a visit to the Burana historical complex and museum, as well as the National Museum of Kyrgyzstan, was organized.

At the end of the training, all participants were awarded certificates.
