International Online Seminars Held at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology
In December 2025, two international scientific online seminars were organized by the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS. The aim of the seminars was to stimulate young researchers’ interest in scientific inquiry, expand international cooperation, and present current topics across different branches of archaeology.
The first seminar featured Dr. David Stone, researcher at the School of Archaeology, University College Dublin (Ireland). His lecture, “Introduction to Archaeobotany,” covered archaeobotanical methods, laboratory analyses, and the interpretation of plant remains in archaeological contexts. Dr. Stone also discussed his participation in excavations at the Late Antique and medieval settlement of Galatepe in Barda, presenting preliminary findings from plant remains recovered during archaeological research. His presentation sparked discussion about the region’s medieval economy and subsistence systems.
The second seminar was delivered by Jakub Stępnik, doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Archaeology, University of Warsaw (Poland). His talk, “Introduction to Digital Archaeology,” focused on the application of modern digital methods in archaeological research, including GIS analytics, 3D reconstruction, and digital data management. The lecture generated broad discussion about future directions in digital archaeology.
Both seminars were conducted via the Google Meet platform and attracted active participation from researchers in Azerbaijan and other countries.
The Council of Young Scientists and Specialists plans to continue this series of international seminars in the coming months.
