On 20 December 2025, a group of scholars led by Associate Professor Parviz Gasimov, PhD in History and Leading Researcher at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, conducted a scientific visit to the Imarat Historical-Architectural Museum Complex in the city of Aghdam.
The delegation included leading researchers from the A.A. Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology — Doctor of Historical Sciences Guntakin Najafli, Associate Professor Shamil Rahmanzade (PhD in History), and Associate Professor Mehri Khanbabayeva (PhD in Mathematics). The scholars were welcomed by Aydin Bashirov, Head of the Karabakh Regional Cultural Administration, Ulvi Gadirov, Acting Director of the Imarat Museum Complex and Director of the Aghdam Regional History Museum, and Zaur Hasanov, Director of the Aghdam Cultural Center.
During the meeting, project leader Parviz Gasimov stated that archaeological research had been conducted in Aghdam after the city’s liberation. Investigations carried out by the Institute revealed numerous acts of vandalism committed during the occupation. At the same time, biological samples relevant to the genealogy of the Karabakh khans were collected and incorporated into modern anthropological and genetic research. By presidential decree dated 20 February 2025, the Imarat Historical-Architectural Museum Complex was officially established. Gasimov noted that the second phase of research has now begun and that specialists involved in archival and historical study visited the site for direct examination.
Accompanied by museum staff member Aynura Jafarova, the researchers toured the complex. Gasimov provided detailed explanations about archaeological and anthropological investigations conducted in the area and their results.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation held discussions with Acting Director Ulvi Gadirov. Electronic presentations and drone footage documenting archaeological work at the site were shared. Photographic documentation of the visit was also carried out.
