One of the well-known figures of Azerbaijani archaeological science, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Tarix Meyrut oglu Dostiyev was born on March 23, 1955 in the Zabrat settlement of Baku. In 1981, he graduated from the Faculty of History of Azerbaijan State University. In 1982-1984, he was an intern- researcher at the Department of Archaeology of Moscow State University, specializing in medieval archaeology. In 1988, he defended his research dissertation entitled “Medieval Archaeological Monuments of North-Eastern Azerbaijan (IX-III centuries)” at the Specialized Defense Council under Moscow State University. He was a participant and leader of the Shabran, Guba-Khachmaz, Mushkur and Shamkir archaeological expeditions.

At the same time, he was the leader of the archaeological expedition that conducted research in the medieval city of Shamkir for a long time since the 2000s.

In 2004, he defended his doctoral dissertation “Northeastern Azerbaijan in the 9th-15th centuries (historical-archaeological research)” at the Defense Council of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of ANAS.

He is a member of the editorial board of the journal “Archaeological Heritage” of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, and the deputy editor- in-chief of the journal “Archaeology of Azerbaijan” of Khazar University.

At the same time, Professor Tarix Dostiyev is a member of the pedagogical staff of such higher educational institutions as BSU and Khazar University. Currently, Honored Professor T. Dostiyev is the head of the “Archaeology and Ethnography” department of Baku State University.

Professor T. Dostiyev is the author of 3 monographs, 3 catalogs, 2 textbooks, and 190 scientific articles. 30 of the scientist’s scientific works have been published abroad.

He is the main author of the VI volume of the multi-volume “Archaeology of Azerbaijan” collection and the responsible editor of the volume.

The main research area of the outstanding scientist is the study of medieval cities and villages of Azerbaijan, as well as civil monumental architecture.

Professor T. Dostiyev, known in international scientific circles as a leading specialist in medieval Islamic archaeology of Azerbaijan, has represented Azerbaijani archaeological science with reports dedicated to the results of his research at international scientific congresses, conferences and symposiums held in the Russian Federation, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, etc. countries.

In 2019, he was awarded the 100th Anniversary of Baku State University jubilee medal.

A tireless researcher, known in international scientific circles, Tarikh Dostiyev enjoys great respect among his research fellow scientists, as well as among the teaching and student staff of the university.
