One of the prominent figures of Azerbaijani archaeological science, PhD in History and Associate Professor Tevekkül Rasul oglu Aliyev was born on May 30, 1955, in the village of Kebirli, Aghjabadi district. In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of History of Baku State University. Since 1978, he has been working at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. From 1981 to 1985, he pursued postgraduate studies in archaeology at the Institute of History of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. In 1988, he defended his dissertation titled “Cyclopean Structures in the Territory of Azerbaijan” in Saint Petersburg (Russia), earning the academic degree of PhD in History in the field of archaeology.

Since 1994, he has been the head of the Department of Field Research. He has participated in fieldwork of the Ganja-Gazakh, Talysh-Mugan, and Guba-Khachmaz archaeological expeditions. Since 2008, he has led the Mil-Karabakh expedition. From 2009 to 2016, he was the Azerbaijani head of the joint Azerbaijan-Germany expedition. Between 2013 and 2015, as the winner and project leader of the 2nd “Shusha Grant” competition of the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he conducted research at the Nargiztepe archaeological monument complex (Khojavend district) in Karabakh.

After the liberation of the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan from occupation, under the leadership of Tevekkül Aliyev, expeditions conducted research in 2023–2024 at the urban site of Shahri Sharifan in the Zangilan district and the Shahbulag Monument Complex in the Aghdam district.

In 2019, by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor. He is the author of 7 books and more than 140 scientific articles, including two co-authored books and 14 articles published abroad. His main area of scientific research is Bronze and Early Iron Age monuments. He has also authored works related to the Neolithic-Chalcolithic, Antique, and Medieval periods. He has participated in scientific conferences held in cities such as Berlin, Warsaw, Tbilisi, Moscow, Seoul, and others.

In addition to his scientific work, T. R. Aliyev has also been engaged in pedagogical activities, contributing to the spread of interactive teaching methods in Azerbaijani schools, the implementation of various educational projects, and the development of history curricula, textbooks, and teaching aids. As the chairman of the Public Union of History Teachers of Azerbaijan, he played a role in organizing the international conference of European history teachers (EUROCLIO) held in Baku in 2002. He has served as an expert in history for the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2010–2013) and for the State Student Admission Commission (1997–2015).

He currently heads the Department of Monitoring and Evaluation of Field Research at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS
