The First International Periodical Journal of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology Has Been Published

The first issue of the English-language international peer-reviewed journal of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, titled *“Tempus Pontem: Azerbaijan Journal of Archaeology and Anthropology,”* has been published.
The journal is the only English-language academic periodical in the sphere of social sciences in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Its scope includes all existing branches of archaeology — such as aerial archaeology (aerial survey), georadar and lidar measurements, archaeogeography, archaeometry, bioarchaeology, archaeobotany, archaeozoology, battlefield archaeology, digital and computational archaeology, experimental archaeology, environmental archaeology, epigraphy, landscape archaeology, numismatics, maritime archaeology, museology, reflexive and non-invasive archaeology, and others — as well as biological and cultural anthropology, including paleopathology and the philosophy of archaeology and anthropology.
The journal has been equipped with modern international publishing standards, including journal metadata, publication details, identifiers (ISSN, DOI, etc.), and contemporary journal specifications. Articles are formatted according to APA style, the standards and recommendations of the American Psychological Association, widely accepted in the social and behavioral sciences.
The journal’s online platform, ajaa.az, is accessible to an international readership. The electronic resource of the journal, which holds an official ISSN identifier, has been designed in accordance with the technical parameters of modern academic journal websites. The site operates on the OJS (Open Journal Systems) open-source platform, created by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), which is used worldwide for journal management, editing, publishing, and online dissemination. All articles are available in open access. PDF articles are integrated, through the OJS infrastructure, into indexing and data systems such as CrossRef, Google Scholar, ORCID, and other international platforms.
The editorial board includes prominent archaeologists and anthropologists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Japan, Italy, the United States, and Germany. The Editor-in-Chief is Farhad Guliyev, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute, PhD in History, Associate Professor.
The journal, already represented in international identification databases via ISSN and DOI, will initially be published twice a year. The strategic goal of the editorial board is to secure the journal’s inclusion in leading international indexing databases.
The first issue features articles covering recent archaeological research conducted within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, particularly in the territories liberated from occupation. In addition to Azerbaijani scholars, the authors include archaeologists from Japan, Italy, and Germany.
