On May 26, 2025, a scientific seminar titled “Kurgan Monuments and Their Archaeological Investigation (Based on the Yedditepe Kurgans)” was held in the assembly hall of the main building of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS and the Faculty of History at Baku State University.
During the seminar, Nermin Mammadli, a research associate and archaeologist at the Institute, delivered a presentation in which she provided detailed information about the distribution area of kurgans, their morphological characteristics, burial traditions, and the materials uncovered during archaeological excavations. In her presentation, Nermin Mammadli emphasized that the study of kurgans provides important insights into the ancient social structure, religious beliefs, and material and cultural heritage of the region.
After the presentation, seminar participants—including archaeologists, historians, students, and individuals interested in the field—engaged in a discussion on the topic and posed various questions. The event was regarded as a significant step toward the study of the country’s ancient history and the encouragement of young scholars to pursue scientific research in this field.
