Meeting Held with Representatives of the Renowned German Company Carl Zeiss

Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), PhD in History, Associate Professor Farhad Guliyev met with high-ranking representatives of the globally renowned German company Carl Zeiss, which is specialized in optical innovations. Among the guests were Mr. Jose Novoa, Head of the Partner Distribution and Sales Department and Vice President of Sales at Carl Zeiss; Mr. Guido Baumhammer, Director of the Partner Distribution and Sales Department; Mr. Nicholas von Korff, Managing Director of AMK, the official partner of the company; Mr. Mikheil Pataridze, Head of the Carl Zeiss Azerbaijan Representative Office; and Mr. Javid Ahmadli, Deputy General Director of Medeks Medical Company.

Farhad Guliyev welcomed the guests and emphasized the significance of collaboration with the world-famous Carl Zeiss company, both for Azerbaijani science in general and for the Institute in particular. In response, Mr. Jose Novoa expressed his appreciation for the establishment of the company’s representation in a country with such ancient history as Azerbaijan, considering it a major success, and noted the promising prospects of cooperation with Azerbaijani partners.

Providing information about the company, Mr. Nicholas von Korff noted that Carl Zeiss has a history spanning 179 years, with some of its partners having worked with the company for over 90 years. Today, Carl Zeiss produces hundreds of product types, including high-quality instruments used in everything from space exploration to micro- and nano-scale technologies. Moreover, the company is not limited to the production of advanced optical devices; in recent decades, Carl Zeiss has been actively supporting scientific research and innovation. Its research institutions operate globally, and its impact extends across numerous fields of both fundamental science and practical technologies. As a result, the concept of a “Zeiss World” has emerged in the modern scientific and technological landscape—embraced by both transnational corporations and ordinary users benefiting from its achievements.

Dr. F.Guliyev stated that Azerbaijani archaeology is currently undergoing restructuring in accordance with the standards that address modern global challenges. The former descriptive archaeology is being replaced by multidisciplinary and digital archaeology. This process of transformation encompasses all scientific research and educational fields in Azerbaijan. Naturally, in such a transitional period, there is a great demand for Carl Zeiss products.

Farhad Guliyev presented a number of concrete proposals for potential cooperation between the company and the Institute. He suggested that Carl Zeiss organize a dedicated seminar with the participation of the Institute’s staff to introduce the company’s archaeological technologies and products. The Institute should become well-informed about the advanced technological tools and make a well-grounded selection of the offered products and services. Another aspect of cooperation he highlighted was the importance of training Institute staff in the proper use of the devices to be acquired, which should be provided by Carl Zeiss specialists.

The meeting, held in a productive and constructive atmosphere, also addressed several other aspects of potential cooperation that would be mutually beneficial in the future.
